YOUR WEALTH
Straight Talk from the Money Editor
Many people wonder if they really need a will. They may believe that they don’t have enough assets to bother with a will. That is just plain wrong, financial experts say. Everyone needs to have a will — it’s not just for the wealthy, they say.

A will gives you control and outlines what you want done with your assets and property at the time of your death. If you die without a will, the state will distribute your property to your heirs according to the state’s intestate succession laws. That means, in death, you lost control over who gets your assets and property and how it might be used; who cares for your minor children and how; and your own care, should you become incapacitated.

Does this sound like a good plan? I didn’t think so. I hope this gets you running straight to an attorney to get that will drawn up.
