NFL Week 3 prep: Marching to the window on Saints
The Saints are the anointed team heading into today’s NFL Week 3 slate.
New Orleans, a 2-point underdog that will play at Atlanta, was the consensus pick in the Westgate SuperContest for both the main and gold competitions (at the static line of +3).
Here are the full lists of consensus picks for the SuperContest:
SuperContest Gold here.
And then there is this from Patrick Everson, aka @Covers_Vegas, who made an appearance Saturday on VSiN:
Per MGM’s Scott Shelton: “One guy has been betting 6 figures multiple times on Saints, both point spread and moneyline. It’s brewing to be a massive decision. He’s gonna have us stuck pretty good if the Saints win.”

Jeff Fogle’s piece, “How blindly betting favorites can cost the public a lot of money,” appeared in Saturday’s editions of the NY Post and still worth reading if you have a chance . . . . especially if you bet on Virginia Tech, a 28.5-point favorite that lost to Old Dominion 49-35 on Saturday in the biggest upset of the day.
Dave Tuley, aka @ViewFromVegas, sums up the day in college football:
No. 5 Oklahoma escaped in 28-21 overtime victory over Army: ViewFromVegas is Sooners did NOT cover as 29.5-point home favorites (note: it’s impossible to cover -29.5 when you only score 28 points — and needing extra time to do it)…game still stayed under 60
No. 7 Stanford rallies to beat No. 20 Oregon 38-31 in overtime (after Ducks RB fumbled while fighting for clinching 1st down): ViewFromVegas is the Cardinal ended up covering as 3-point road favorite (went over closing total of 59 on game-tying FG at end of regulation)
No. 16 Wisconsin rallied to beat Iowa 28-17 with 2 TDs in final minute: ViewFromVegas is the Badgers covered as 3-point road favorites (VFV note: they were covering 21-17 on go-ahead TD w/ 57 seconds to play but then added insurance TD w/ :22 left to put game Over 43.5)
VSiN’s Matt Youmans tweeted this quote from Westgate SuperBook director John Murray: "We needed Oregon for a huge decision. Everybody bet Stanford. It’s probably our biggest swing of the day."
Tiger Woods hasn’t won yet, but he already is the 10-1 favorite in next year’s Masters, at least at the Westgate SuperBook. Woods is 4-7 with Rory McIlroy at 7-2 and Justin Rose at 4-1 heading into the final round of the Tour Championship, according to Jeff Sherman of the Westgate.
Xpressbet Road to the Breeders’ Cup coverage
In the two Grade I races we previewed this week as part of the Xpressbet Road to the Breeders’ Cup.
And as Philadelphia horse racing columnist Dick Jerardi wrote:
It was a chaotic Saturday at Parx, with a horse trying to bite a jockey in the final yards of one race and a controversial disqualification in another before order was restored in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby that was won by a colt trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Mike Smith, the most dangerous big-race combination in modern American horse racing history.
