YOUR WEALTH
Editor’s Note
If you’re getting close to putting your full-time working days behind you, make sure you give the financial implications of that step more than just a passing once-over.

Whether you’re viewing the next phase of your life as retirement, semi-retirement or an unknown adventure, the transition is prone to delivering big surprises if you don’t explore how your decisions will affect your bottom line.

Regardless of where you fall on that spectrum, experts recommend taking time to make sure you’ve covered all your financial bases, which could include how to pay for health care (original Medicare doesn’t cover everything), the best time to claim Social Security, assuming the appropriate amount of risk in your retirement accounts such as IRAs and 401(k) plans, and more.

Remember, there aren’t a lot of opportunities for do-overs in retirement, so make sure yours is as golden as you’ve imagined. For more great stuff like this, please follow me on Twitter @jimpavia and check out CNBC’s Financial Advisor Hub.
