One of the Craziest CFB Saturdays in Recent Memory

We know, we know. It’s Sunday. It’s all about the NFL. But, we’d truly be remiss if we didn’t talk about what happened yesterday.

If you like chaos, upsets and drama, then you could have hooked Saturday directly into your veins. What a phenomenal Saturday of college football it was. The College Football Playoff no longer features Ohio State, as the Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the first time since 2011 to fall out of the picture. It sure looks like the Wolverines, who won the Big Ten East for the first time under Jim Harbaugh, control their own destiny next week against Iowa as an 8.5-point favorite.

Alabama needed some serious help to beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl. The Tide were already destined for the SEC Championship Game against Georgia, but a second loss would have put their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy. All it took was a 12-play, 97-yard game-tying touchdown drive to send the game to overtime and Alabama prevailed in the bogus two-point conversion gimmick to survive another day. The Bulldogs are -6 next weekend in Atlanta in the highly-anticipated game.

Oklahoma State won a Bedlam matchup against Oklahoma that lived up to the name. Now the Cowboys face Baylor and it looks as though they could make the final four with a win. They’ll be a big favorite over the Bears, though we’ll see if QB Gerry Bohanon can return and give Baylor the best chance possible.

The playoff drama certainly took center stage, but LSU had a dramatic, comeback win to send Ed Orgeron off a winner. North Texas secured bowl eligibility by knocking off unbeaten UTSA to go from 1-6 to 6-6. Tulsa also finished its three-game quest to become bowl-eligible with a win over SMU. Kent State outlasted Miami (OH) 48-47 to punch a ticket to face Northern Illinois in Detroit on Friday night in the MAC Championship Game.

It was a great day and we’ve got a lot of great college football left. We’ll have wall-to-wall coverage of this week’s games and don’t forget about the College Football Bowl Betting Guide that will come out around Dec. 13.
