Burke’s Betting Blurbs

A Humble Request to Expand Your Mind

I’m very thankful and appreciative to say that the feedback thus far for the MLB Betting Guide has been overwhelmingly positive. I’m really glad that so many people have embraced my work here at VSiN and especially when it comes to a big project like this with so much of my heart, soul and energy going into it. Today’s previews focused on the AL Central, and you can find those linked above.

I’d encourage everybody to take a look at the stats glossary before diving into the MLB team previews because there are a lot of stats that may be foreign to readers. My method of handicapping with baseball is to dig as deep into the data as I possibly can in hopes of finding an edge. That includes incorporating a lot of stats and metrics that aren’t going to be well-known or discussed in a lot of betting circles.

Sabermetrics are something that I’ve been interested in for over 15 years now and I’ve had to pick up on different things and expand my own knowledge base many times over. All I’m asking readers to do is keep an open mind and see if a different way of looking at the game works for you. It’s entirely possible that it doesn’t and you’ll find that what you do is a lot more comfortable. I’m perfectly fine with that. We’re all trying to achieve the same thing, no matter how we get there.

I’ll readily admit that I’ve spoken with friends and colleagues in the business that do things a certain way and I’ve adopted their practices and philosophies in hopes of improving myself and winning more bets. I’m not sure I’d be where I am today without keeping an open mind. My wish is that you do the same when it comes to baseball and the presentation of my team previews and other discussions moving forward.

Burke’s Betting Blurbs will go on hiatus for a few days with a much needed breather. In the meantime, keep checking out the previews and sharing your feedback with me via email or Twitter.

If you’re not a subscriber, head to VSiN.com/draft to sign up now and gain access to the MLB Betting Guide!
